The Teachers and Principals Collective Agreement 2009-2011 (Clause 7.15.3) says: all ACT employees “will participate in at least 5 days of approved planning and staff development including 4 days in designated stand-down periods. Schools can determine 4 days in this fashion through negotiation with staff. The CEO may choose to allocate 1 of these 4 days for professional development to cover system priorities. The remaining day will be able to be negotiated by employees as part of their annual individual professional development program.”

In regard to the prescribed use of four (4) days in stand-down time, school staffs may agree to use the three days between 29 – 31 January for Staff PD. In addition, school staffs will be required to participate in PD on one more day in stand-down time to complete the required four days of PD in stand-down time. If one or more of these designated stand-down days is/are not used for PD then another/other day(s) in stand-down time will have to be used during the school year to make up the total of 4 PD days in stand-down time. Friday 1 February is the Staff Planning Day and start of Term 1. Students will return for Term 1 on Monday 4 February.
